OMAHA, Neb. -- Omaha police are looking for a man accused of shooting a friend, while they were looking for drugs.According to investigators, early the morning of September 26th, Leandre Jennings and another man drove to the area of 47th and Crown Point Avenue to buy some marijuana."Jennings went up to the home to purchase the marijuana, well when he returned, he returned to the vehicle with a gun and began firing at the victim," said Officer Jake Bettin.
The victim escaped and ran a couple a couple blocks to call for help. The gunshot wounds were not life-threatening.Police said if Jennings was involved, it would be the latest in a lengthy criminal history that includes robbery, illegal gun possession, crack cocaine and running from the law.Jennings has also been a crime victim.KETV Newswatch 7 files show that he was shot and wounded in July of 2003.If that instance, Jennings was walking in the area of 24th and Ohio Streets when someone stepped out from between the houses and shot him in the arm.He was fifteen years old at the time."It's just a cycle that this guy obviously can't get out of, so if we can get him behind bars we might be able to help him out a ltitle bit," Bettin told KETV Newswatch 7's Rob McCartney.Jennings is described as a black male, 21 years old, 5-feet 11-inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds.Police said he should be considered dangerous."Just a person who shouldn't be on the streets right now," said Bettin.Anyone with information about Jennings is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.Tips are accepted by:* phone at (402) 444-STOP...* text at "CRIMES" (274637) with the message beginning with "OPD"...* online at OmahaCrimeStoppers.net.Tipsters remain anonymous and good information could lead to a cash reward.
